Crews extinguished a junkyard fire Friday evening that caused a massive plume of black smoke in the Rio Linda area of Sacramento County that could be seen for miles. LiveCopter 3 aerials showed smoke pouring of a burning pile of vehicles in the 6800 block of West 6th Street north of West Elkhorn Boulevard. The fire was reported just after 5 p.m.The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District worked to protect nearby structures and RVs that are threatened.No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged, the fire department said.The Sacramento Office of Emergency Services is evaluating the area for potential hazardous materials, the fire department said.It is unknown what caused the fire.
