Ex-footballer Jermaine Pennant signs up for SAS: Who Dares Wins

EXCLUSIVE: Ex-footballer Jermaine Pennant signs up for SAS: Who Dares Wins as show’s DS staff set to delve into his troubled past

Former Arsenal and Liverpool footballer Jermaine Pennant has signed up for the next series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The former Big Brother star, 39, enjoyed a 10-year top-flight career but his on-field success was overshadowed by troubles away from the pitch, notably when he became the first Premier League star to play wearing an electronic tag.

Jermaine will begin filming for the Channel 4 show in the coming weeks, joining cast-members including TOWIE’s James Argent, ex-Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, Wanted singer Siva Kaneswaran and Hollyoaks favourite Kirsty Leigh-Porter.

A TV insider said: ‘Jermaine is looking forward to competing in the gruelling show, fitness-wise he knows it’s going to be hard but he’s used to rigorous training workouts.

‘His backstory is fascinating due to his tough upbringing which is why show bosses wanted him involved as the DS’s will have plenty to grill him about.

‘In recent years his outlook on life has totally changed, his partying and drinking days are over and he’s hoping to prove he’s a different man.’

In 2018, Jermaine hit the headlines when he took part in his then wife Alice Goodwin’s explicit online sex shows, where she charged viewers £6 a minute to watch the explicit content.

He’s also no stranger to reality TV, starring in Celebrity Big Brother in 2018 and Celebs Go Dating the following year.

Jermaine is now in a relationship with glamour model Jess Impiazzi, who he recently described as the ‘perfect girl for me.’

Speaking in June during an interview on GB News, he said: ‘We just got along and we had kind of similar upbringings as well.

‘She had a difficult one and we just, you know, kind of bonded and we see eye to eye and it works and we’re both happy.’

Jermaine was once the most expensive teenager in football history when he joined Arsenal from Notts County for £2million in 1999.

He was just 15 when he made the move and went on to make 12 appearances for the Gunners before signing for Birmingham City in 2005, where he played with an electronic tag following a drink-driving conviction.

The following year he secured a £6.7m switch to Liverpool where he played in the 2007 Champions League final while earning £30,000-a-week.

But after three years at Anfield, his football career began to fizzle out following loan spells at Portsmouth, Stoke City and Wolves, a brief stint at La Liga side Real Zaragoza, before ending his career playing in India and Singapore.

His final club was Billericay Town where he made just 13 appearances.
