Magda Szubanski faces an avalanche of hate for supporting the vote, while a vile troll throws her weight into the debate
Magda Szubanski has hit back at trolls who vilified her after voicing her support for the Yes campaign.
The comedian has taken her support for an Indigenous voice to Parliament, with a referendum set to be held on October 14.
But many who plan to vote no have lashed out at the TV star, with one accused of ‘fat shaming’.
The Twitter user, who has since deleted her comment, had made a comment about Szubanski’s health.
‘Her life is in danger!!! The HEALTH of our DEMOCRACY is also at risk when celebrities like Magda decide it is their right to INTIMIDATE those who dare to DIFFER,” they wrote in response to Szubanski advocating for the “Yes” vote.

Szubanski dismissed the comment, questioning why it was okay for the No campaign to pile on its “abuse.”
‘It’s not intimidation. It is an attempt to safeguard the truth in the interest of a functioning democracy,” the comedian replied.
“And unless you’re lying, you don’t have to worry at all. Curious: Are you okay with the No campaign insulting me personally? Don’t you think that’s harassment?’

The comedian replied to a No voter who had made a comment about Szubanski’s health
Earlier this week, Szubanski was criticized by naysayers when she asked her followers to take a screenshot of the “lies” being shared by them.
“Yes voters and reasonable undecideds…a favor,” she began.
‘Can you please screen and document all the disinformation, slander and lies spread by the NO campaign?
‘Accounts where they came from etc. For future use only. Thank you.’
While some supported the comedian and said they would love to do so, others were offended.
“What, you’re the thought police now. Another person running from people with alternative opinions,” one person replied.

“Magda, do yourself a favor, it’s not lies if all the details haven’t been released. “It’s not lies when people in the community tell us they think the ‘Vote’ is bullshit,” said another.
“Magda wants to make a list of everyone with opposing views,” one person tweeted. ‘How very tolerant of her.
‘Magda, honestly I hate personal attacks and I don’t think anyone should attack you because of your looks/weight etc., however no one should if you antagonize people and make insidious comments like asking you followers to screen shoot down information that could be mis/disinformation and ask them to send it to you, you are putting yourself in a similar light…” wrote another.
