North American Gay Village Affected by the Covid Pandemic: Lightspeed – News

According to qualitative data collected from the survey, gay villages showed disproportionate amounts of closures, over-the-counter rides, and higher rents compared to other LGBTQ + -led business communities.

According to Statistics Canada, the types of businesses in the village are primarily retail stores, restaurants, bars and entertainment, which were the hardest hit during the pandemic. The study also found that Canada lags behind the United States in approving priority spending, procurement and relief funds for LGBTQ + projects.

As of January 2021, the city of New York recognized LGBTQ-owned businesses as minority-owned businesses, with access to consulting, mentorship, education programs and other resources, as well as billions of city contracts. It became a target. In Canada, on the other hand, the federal government is lagging behind in recognizing LGBTQ + business communities within the same category and cannot benefit from government funding.

The exploratory research focused on companies in six North American cities: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles.The study consisted of Both Surveys and interviews.
