Pentagon To Mandate COVID-19 Vaccine, As Pfizer Is Approved

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says it’s going to require service members to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine now that the Pfizer vaccine has acquired full approval.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby stated Monday that Protection Secretary Lloyd Austin is making good on his vow earlier this month to require the pictures as soon as the Meals and Drug Administration accredited the vaccine.

Kirby stated steering is being developed and a timeline will likely be offered within the coming days.

In a memo Aug. 9, Austin stated he’d search the president’s approval to make the vaccine obligatory no later than mid-September, or instantly upon FDA licensure “whichever comes first.”

Kirby stated the transfer is an effort to make sure the security of service members.
