The puffer jacket designed to beat the heat: Bizarre coat features a beer-powered cooling system that can chill the body down by 5°C

When it’s hot outside, the last thing most people think about is wearing a puffer jacket.

But a bizarre new jacket promises to keep you cool, thanks to a beer-powered cooling system.

Tiger Beer joined forces with fashion designer Izzy Du to create the signature puffer jacket, which was unveiled ahead of Paris Fashion Week.

“Making a puffer fish for summer is an external expression of how refreshing and cool it feels to drink a tiger,” said Ms. Du.

“I started with the feeling of opening an ice-cold can of beer and playing with the colors of Tiger Beer, before repurposing the puffer fish aesthetic.”

At first glance, the Tiger Summer Puffer looks like a fairly standard jacket, with bright orange insulation layers.

What you can’t see from the outside, however, is a network of plastic pipes hidden inside.

These tubes are filled with water, which is cooled with cold beer before being pumped around the jack.

The tubes contact key points where the arteries are closest to the skin, cooling the body by up to 50 degrees 5°C, according to Tiger.

“Inspired by the same technology that keeps astronauts cool in extreme temperatures, we tried several cooling system designs, each making the jacket more effective at keeping the wearer cool for as long as possible,” said Masashi Kawamura, Chief Technology Officer of Anything. Co., the creative studio that developed the technology.

‘We tested different tube placements, tube materials, water tank designs and electronic wiring before landing on the final mechanism.

“We even had a test run where the jacket became too cold to wear, and we had to adjust it to get it to the right temperature.”

The futuristic coat will be on display during Paris Fashion Week, although it remains unclear when or if it will go on sale.

This isn’t the first crazy coat to make headlines in recent months.

In March, a bedding company designed a coat made from duvets that stretches from shoulder to ankle.

Joan Johnston, co-inventor of the Coaroon duvet coat, which takes its name from the Scottish word ‘coorie’, meaning to cuddle, said: ‘Many people enjoy a duvet day, snuggling on the sofa, but they get cold again when she has to get up to go to the bathroom or kitchen.

‘So we wanted people to be able to keep warm, as if they were still wearing the duvet, even though this is a carefully designed garment with style in mind.’
